ventured into the Wild Rice market in 1986 and quickly became a
principle player in the North American Wild Rice Industry. Since
the introduction of SunWest Wild Rice, we have added a full line
of specialty rices and continue to develop new products. The majority
of our rices are grown in Northern California's beautiful and abuntant
rice growing area. SunWest Foods has created several rice pilafs
and blends which incorporate the specialty rices below.
Wild Rice We
have all natural wild rice from California, and Canadian Lake Rice
(Jumbo) in a variety of cooking time and package sizes. Specialty Rices Basmati Rice has been a staple cusine for hundreds of years in India. It is aged for a year in order to bring out its nutty aroma and taste. We also grow a Californian version which compares favorably to its Indian cousin but at a substantial savings to the customer. Jasmine Rice is a traditional Thai long grain and is very aromatic. Arborio rices are a mainstay in Italy and other Mediterranean countries. When cooked, Arborio has a creamy texture found in risottos and works well in paella. SunWest Foods also has a Californian grown Arborio type rice available. Cal Mochi is the main rice used to create Asian desserts and is also a wonderful component in rice blends. SunWest also is proud to have several wonderful types of colored rice. Our Long Grain Aromatic Red Rice has a beautiful russet color and a firm, almost crunchy texture. Our Black Japonica is a short grain rice with a firm texture and a musky aroma. It is often combined with other rices as a side dish or a replacement to other rice in our favorite recipes.
