PLANET BURGER

1/2 cup sunflower kernels

1 (16-oz.) can garbanzo beans

3 cups cooked brown rice

1 medium onion, chopped

1 medium carrot, shredded

1/2 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs

1/3 cup chopped fresh parsley

2 eggs, lightly beaten

1/4 cup soy sauce

1 teaspoon dried thyme

Vegetable oil for frying

8 slices French bread, toasted

SMORGASBURGERS

Ingredients

2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided

1 medium onion, chopped

1 medium apple, peeled and chopped

1 clove garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried sage or 1 tablespoon fresh chopped sage

1 pound ground turkey

3 cups cooked brown rice

2 tablespoons ketchup

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

6 hamburger buns, toasted

Directions

Heat 1 tablespoon oil in large skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Add onion, apple, garlic and sage; cook 3 to5 minutes or until onion is tender. Remove from heat. Combine onion mixture, turkey, rice, ketchup, salt and pepper in large bowl. Shape into patties. Heat remaining 1 tablespoon oil in same skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Cook burgers 6 minutes per side or until thoroughly cooked. Serve on buns with condiments.

Makes 6 servings.
